Jon Barnwell has worked as a Realtor in Rabun County, Georgia for fourteen+ years, having first moved to the area from Atlanta in 1986. He is a 1992 graduate of Rabun Gap Nacoochee School and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1996 from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. After graduating college, Jon managed a farm in northwestern Pennsylvania for a number of years before coming home to begin a career in real estate.
At RE/MAX, Jon has gained valuable wisdom by working alongside the best real estate agents in the business, many of whom have more than thirty years of experience. Hard work and long hours, along with innovative technology and creative marketing strategies, have resulted in Jon earning a place among the top agents in northeast Georgia.
Since he became a Realtor, Jon has been active on the boards of several local organizations, and continues to volunteer for and sponsor many of their fundraising events. These include the Lake Burton Civic Association, Lake Rabun Association, Lake Rabun Ramble 5K and 10K races, Tour of Homes, and the Rabun Gap Nacoochee School Alumni Council. He also is a director and two-term past president of the Rabun County Board of Realtors, and has been a past member of the Community Service Committee, Member Services and Awards Committee, and chaired the MLS Committee within the Board. Jon is also on the Board of Trustees at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School.
His commitment to leadership and education influenced Jon to pursue professional designations from the National and Georgia Association of Realtors; he earned the ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative) and CLHMS (Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist) designations, as well as local and national recognition from RE/MAX including multiple monthly and annual Top Seller at RE/MAX of Rabun. Jon has achieved Platinum, Executive, and 100% Club Awards from RE/MAX International. He has also been inducted into the RE/MAX International Hall of Fame.
Outdoor activities and the natural beauty are major attractions in Rabun County, and the local history is quite compelling. Jon has a great store of knowledge about Rabun County’s history and resources. A day spent with him looking at lake homes, mountain cabins, or land around Rabun County can also include learning about local plant species, wildlife, or a story about the towns now submerged beneath Lake Burton. Jon spends his free time exploring the north Georgia mountains, volunteering with the local search and rescue team, enjoying the many fine local restaurants (fun fact: Rabun County is the farm-to-table capital of Georgia), and occasionally slipping away to new places when time allows.
